Web 2.0 Badge Tutorial
Step 5
Right click the active layer and duplicate.

Right click the duplicated layer and select Rasterize Layer.

Ctrl-click the newly rasterized layer to select it.


Select > Modify > Contract…

Contract your selection by 2 pixels.

Hold down Shift+Ctrl+I to Invert your selection. Press delete.

Ctrl-click to select this layer and paint it over with a light gray if it is not already.
Step 6
Select the Elliptical Marquee Tool.

Drag this over the top half of your layer, where you want your shine to be.

Hold down Shift+Ctrl+I to invert the selection.
Grab the Burn Tool.

Drag this around the edge of your curved selection.

De-select the layer.

Step 7
Change the layer mode to Overlay. you may also want to adjust the Opacity depending on how bright you want your highlight.

Congratulations! You’ve made a shiny Web 2.0 badge. You can add some text to it as well.

I got Photoshop version 8 (Central europe) and it says the PSD file I just downloaded is not a valid file.
