Photoshop is YOUR Cash Machine - Part One
2. StockXpert - www.istockxpert.com

Royalty Scheme: 50%
Popularity: OK
Overview: A brainchild of those that brought you the popular FREE stock photography site - the Stock Exchange, StockXpert is a relatively new Microstock site aimed at providing cheap, quality images. The commission scheme is generous at 50%, and you can cash out at $50 through Paypal or $100 through cheque. Although the payout/royalty scheme is great, the site just isn’t as popular as other MicroStock sites out there, and it may take some time to sell enough to reach payout levels. However, results from StockXpert are shown alongside results on the Stock Exchange, which could potentially lead to more exposure for your paid images. Give it a go and try to sell your pictures here - they’ve got a trusted brand and name behind them, so when they take off you’ll be glad you’re part of it!
3. Fotalia - www.fotalia.com

Royalty Scheme: Variable - 50% - 64% for exclusive works/33% - 47% for non-exclusive
Popularity: Good
Overview: Fotalia has been here for a while, and has the image collection to prove it. Boasting over 3 million stock images, a nice steady customer stream, a very generous payment scheme (if selling exclusively on Fotalia), as well as the option to either cash out for money or credits (to be used on other photography purchases), this is also a great place to start selling your stock!
You can also cash out your credits whenever you want - although they do charge one credit ($1.00) for a withdrawal under $50.00. The option to keep some credits is also useful if you do a lot of design work - you could potentially earn enough credits to pay for all the Stock you personally need for your clients!
4. Dreamstime - www.dreamstime.com
![]()
Royalty Scheme: 50% per sale, up to an additional 20 cents for exclusive images
Popularity: Sweet
Overview: Dreamstime is another popular choice, and is also a leader in the MicroStock field. Their 50% commission is swell, but their 20 cent for exclusivity is even better. They’re also quite popular yet their selection of images are sometimes a little lacking - meaning that if YOU can provide some good stock, you have a good chance at making some headway on this site. You can cash out once you’ve reached $100.
They’ve got an interesting selling scheme as well, charging more for popular images. This benefits the artist as well, since that profit trickles down to you. So, a picture selling for $1.00 on other sites might sell at $5.00 on Dreamstime, depending on how many downloads it has. That equals to more $$$ for you!
5. Shutterstock - www.shutterstock.com

Royalty Scheme: flat 25 cents per download, 30 cents after earning $500
Popularity: OK
Overview: Although Shutterstock may not have the largest memberbase, it operates in a way that benefits YOU, the contributor, more than other Microstock sites. Instead of purchasing images individually, clients purchase a subscription which allows them to download 25 images a day for a month. This means that clients try to max out this quota, purchasing all the images they think they will need - this translates into more downloads for you! A royalty payout of 25 cents per download is not much compared to other sites, but when coupled with the subscription scheme outlined above, it balances out.
And that’s it!
There are a lot of other MicroStock sites out there, but those above have consistently shown to be the best of the best. If you’re not looking for exclusive sales, submit to as many sites as you possibly can. Soon, you’ll have a steady stream of income flowing in which doesn’t even require you to lift your finger!
