Now comes the fun part. Duplicate your folder (so you have a back-up to work with). Now we’re going to merge the layer set by pressing Ctrl-E.

Now we’re going to separate the cover and spine into two layers. Using the Rectangular Marquee Tool, select the cover and paste it on to a new layer. Do the same for the spine.

With the cover layer selected and the Move Tool in hand hold down Ctrl-T to transform. Right click the cover, and choose Perspective.

Grabbing the upper left corner, drag downwards until you are satisfied:

Do the same with the spine, except select the upper right corner. You may have a 1px gap between the spine and cover. If that is the case, nudge the spine over.

And you’re finished! Now you can merge both layers together and copy them onto a larger canvas to add special effects. Here I have added a subtle shadow:

  7. No problem – first make sure that your rulers are visible (View — Rulers). Then simply click on the vertical ruler and drag it over to where you need it. Hope that helps!

  9. Sure! I need a little more detail on what’s getting you stuck though – are you having trouble selecting the spine? Making the gradient? Or something else?
