Thank you so much for this, I really …

The Intuitive Way

Although this method takes a little more time, I like it when I need something specific. This lets you control everything – from your line widths to the number you have, even the kinds of colours. This is also the way most people would approach making a starburst, but I think there’s a few tips in here that will help you make a nice one!

Create a background and new blank layer.

Starburst

Select View > Rulers

Starburst

Making sure your background layer is selected, drag down a guideline from the top ruler until it snaps to the middle.

Starburst

Do the same vertically.

Starburst

You can see that this now gives us a marked middle for our starburst. So grab the pen tool…

Starburst

And start drawing your starbursts from the middle!

Starburst

You could apply colour directly to the shape, or using blending options.

Starburst

I would recommend putting this new shape layer in its own folder. Devote a different layer to each colour to help keep things organized.

Starburst

Continue drawing more bursts.

Starburst

Want more colours? Add a new folder and draw them in!

This is what I had at the end, using three different colours and varying widths:

There, I hope this tut was helpful to you, and that you’re not sick of starbursts now. :D

  5. Hi Vale – did you make sure to load up the Shapes folder? (check above). The target shape should look like a circle, not like a starburst at all. If you still need help finding it, feel free to take a screenshot of your work area and I’ll see what I can do!

  15. How did you get the dark blue middle. I can not get it to work.

  16. I filled in a dark blue background, then added a radial gradient to the starburst with one of the colours being the same hue as the dark blue background.

  17. Thanks you very much. It is cool and wonderful !

  18. I like your sense of humor in your tutorial.
